Ask Verizon if you are on copper or a SLC (pronounced "slick") (Station Line Carrier) Copper will often work better. Sometimes you have both media feeding a neighborhood.

If the answer is copper, ask them to "dedicate" your pair, which means trimming away any branch wires ("bridged taps") on side roads, on your circuit before it gets to your house, and cutting off of any wiring on your pair that continues past the pole in front of your house. Ask them to trim out the last load coil before your house.

It is best to ask one of the maintenance splicers (guys in town whom you probably already know) to do this. They are allowed a little discretion in their daily schedules, so to speak. I would say an informal chat with the guys at breakfast, rather than an official call to repair service, is the way to go. They probably like syrup on their flapjacks.

Some of these things will make a difference in some cases, and some will not. Trial and error is the key, here.

As a last resort, invite me up for a weekend of syrup and PW fun, and I'll climb up the poles in the dark of night and do it for you.
