The Mico brake locks came (past tense) in several different types. The Lever-Lock is the one pictured, which mechanically checked the fluid in the applied position.

Another variation used an electrically-operated valve that used a simple pushbutton on the dash, and a pilot light (connected to a brake-light switch, mounted on the lock) to indicate that the pressure was held. It only used electricity when the button was first pushed. Pushing the brake pedal would apply back pressure to the lock, releasing it. Simple and clever.

They were used on tow trucks, and utility trucks as an additional parking brake when working.

Unfortunately, the newer Mico products are very expensive, and not as rugged or simple. Hmmm...that sounds familiar. Where have I heard that before? Oh yes, Power Wagon story!
