Jonas had posted "young mechanics" and I enjoyed reading the responses.
It brought to mind something else that has me really PO'd ! Not only have most, or at least, a large majority of parts stores gone to a computerized system based on a "application only" database, but most of the junkyards are now computerized and they more or less fix the prices through a junkyard network but, thats not my grip, why do they lie and say they don't have any Hollander books when I've had several employees say they did? It seems that many auto businesses are becoming customer hostile instead of customer friendly.
There is a wealth of info on interchange parts in those books, If you'ne ever looked through them its amazing how many vehicles before 1960 of diff. makes and models, have parts that will interchange. If anyone knows where to obtain old Hollander books I'd sure appreciate the info.
P.S. Most young mechanics are only parts changers and have no mechanical diagnostic
ability whatsoever, just as the so-called parts people could do nothing without knowing the application. Yes ,I need a fuel pump for a late 70's chevy 350 eng.... parts guy- whats that in sir? nothing ! I just need a fuel pump. Parts guy- "stupid look accompanied by a trance type stare" 5,4,3,2,1 A FATAL EXCEPTION HAS JUST OCCURED !
