My thoughts also. it doesn't sound like anything to do with the flywheel. It sounds more like clutch arm/bearing adjustment. Can you see the clutch easily, has it come loose from the clutch diaphragm or is the backing plate loose on the flywheel? Has the clutch arm come away from the clutch arm "pivot stud"? Something is certainly wrong and it should be fairly obvious. The adjustment linkage is your first clue, follow that to the next component to see what has caused the adjustment to be so far out of whack.
