From what I understand about the winch you wrap it so it pulls out from the bottom and the safty brake is adjusted so it keeps tention on the drum to keep it frome un/spooling. That way you would not need to take it up tight to keep it from un spooling. I am sure I will be corected if I am wrong. I would be afraid to keep the spool locked as it might be bumped into PTO engaged and bust the shear pin or something else. Mark H.
