Vaughn posted down below, by your first post. All I can figure out from my M37 manual is that C is the ground wire, and "is not required on registration numbers above 3A4670(?)" They just show wires A, B, and C going to pins A, B, and C on the regulator without saying which is gen and which is field. I even looked in my M35 manual, figuring the pinout for the DC generator should be the same, and found some drawings that show pins "A" and "B", and others that show pins "A1" and "F1", but none that says whether A1 (armature or gen) is pin A or B or likewise whether F1 (field) is A or B. I assume you need to know because you're trying to hook up a civilian regulator to the military generator. Is that right?
