I didn't say that we shouldn't try to save people from dying, either in car wrecks or war. My point is that the economic argument is bogus, and that the "cost to society" in pure dollars is more for a crippled person than for a dead one. We can certainly try to be decent civilized people and value human life more than money, but let's be honest and say we're willing to spend money to help more people live longer, rather than trying to say that all the car safety gizmos are a cost-saving measure.
