You will not regret it and I dont think the price for the gas should be a issue. I got a century 135 with a gas kit and a bottle, cart, 5 tips for under $500. It's the only way to go for light work as it sounds like your doing. Keep the stick for bigger stuff and for welding outside if it's windy.
I am going to get a bigger 220 volt Miller for shop use. and keep the little 135 around as a mobile unit on my welding trailer.
The century is a nice "cheap" welder for entry level use. but it is cheap and has it's limits. In the 5 years I've had it, I've more than gotten my money out of it, and it still works good. I've probably only run 20 spools of wire through it though.
