Using gas will make better and cleaner welds. Some would argue that the welds are stronger also because the gas shields the weld from the atmosphere keeping it clean. They also run cooler so you dont warp things as bad.

The Hobart 135 is a great little welder. For around the house and doing body work it is great, Its not a continuous duty welder and would not work in a fab shop where it would have to run constant all day long. If you had 220volt and wanted to spend a tad more there is the Hobart 175 that is a 220 welder that is better then the 135. And up from there the sky is the limit on welders. But if you want to weld the kids bike,do some body work and then carry it up front to fix the railing on the front porch a 110 unit is great!
