I was a millitary aircraft mechanic for twenty years. We had fuel cell foam in some of our aircraft, its purpose was to prevent incidiary rounds from causing an explosion in a partially filled fuel tank. Not all aircraft had it, only the ones that had to fly over the unfriendly skies. That foam fit in the fuel tanks in a three dementinal puzzle, you had to remove it to work on the fuel cell, what a nightmare. One thing, we had to check filters more often, because of vibration and other factors the foam would break down and you, know make fitlers clog at 30k feet not good. Thats what i know about fuel cells.
