The small V8 Cummins naturally apirated are governed at 3300 and the turbo version of the 555 are governed at 3000. The V504 is rated about 210hp, V555 @225-240hp, and VT555 @225-maybe a tad more. If an OD 5 speed were bolted up you'd buy the motor a little more life in the fast lane. Now if you had a 6V53 Detroit w/Jakes you'd howl down the road and oil it to keep the dust down all at the same time. The Cummins V8 doesn't thrive like the Screamin Jimmy when you drive it like you're mad at it. I had the pleasure of driving a truck with a N/A triple nickel, it had a 10 speed Roadranger with a 4 speed brownie. You needed every gear and it saw a hill coming long before you did. Also drove another with a 3208 Cat w/10 speed.....most of the small V8s make lots of racket but the Driptroit has the most obnoxiously appealing sound, the higher they spin the better they sound.
