Well, there is a fast way to check these generators without too much work or removing them.
1. Loosen the generator clamp and take off the fan belt.
2. Take the large and small cables off the generator terminals.
3. Run a decent sized cable from the feed terminal of the battery to BOTH the large and small terminals on the generator case.
4. If all the generator circuits are OK, it will run like a slow electric motor. If it does the generator is OK and look elsewhere, if it doesn't then one or the other circuit in the generator is the problem.
