I have a trailer like you describe. Mine does not have the hydraulic shock absorber and I dont think its needed. My trailer has an 18' tilting section, leaving 4' stationary at the front. was also concerned about the ramp tipping up with only the front wheels, but that isnt the case. They also make trailers with 16' tilts which may have the premature tip up issue. As to mounting a winch, I also have contemplated that. My thought was to mount a fairlead at the front edge of the tilt to allow the cable to run over the top of it until it dropped. then the winch can be up front where it will be out of the way.
