I’ll keep at it like Keith suggested. I got my gasket from VPW, so hopefully it is good quality. I never could find the 4 corners in the gasket before I installed it. There is a visible seam in the molding. I put it at the bottom center. I have the windshield closed with the gasket taped in position, so it can get used to its new shape. I sprayed it with soapy water to help it slip into the grooves. That probably also helped it slip back out. I’ll try again with it dry.

Another windshield question: It seems like there should be some rubberized washers between the thumbscrews and the windshield props to keep the nuts from coming loose when the windshield is propped open on a bouncy road. Are you closed-cab WC (or Model A )guys using anything like that?
