I've found the best traction on ice is with chains, especially the ones with the V-bars. They are far superior to any type of rubber tire, even ones with carbide studs. I have had tires siped, and that helps with traction on ice a lot, but that's still not nearly as good as tire chains. This is my experience from over 40 years of driving in all types of ice and snow conditions.
