Mercury Marine has a product called "Storage Seal". This is a sticky/oil that is applied thru the carb with engine running, the last part of the can is poured in quickly and will shut down the engine. Expect a lot of smoke as you apply the storage seal, and expect a LOT of smoke when you re-start the engine in the future. I have used it for years on 6 cyl flat head Chris Craft engines.
It works GREAT. I have never had to do anything on the re-start other than choke and crank a little. The remaining Storage Seal will burn out of the engine in a few minutes running and the smoke will stop.

All Mercury Marine Dealers should have the 'Storage Seal"
