When you start it, at least go back and forth a little ways to slosh the oil around. I'm aware of this because I had to rebuild the transfer in my duece and will need to do the tranny soon due to bad bearings and when I took it apart it was obvious that it had sat for a long time and condensation had made rust on everything that was above the oil level. I expect "a long time" is years rather than months, though.
