MN's shop manual quote is as follows: "Every 2,000 miles, remove level plug from each joint, check the lubricant and fill to the bottom of the filler hole with short fiber wheel bearing lubricant. Lubricate the top bearing through grease nipple at the top of knuckle with chassis lubricant every 2,000 miles. The joints should be cleaned and repacked every 20,000 miles of road operation or 300 hours of field work."
Surely every PW owner has done this, so the little plug with the slotted head should be well conditioned to being removed and replaced frequently. Yeah, right!!
I wonder if the hole could be drilled out larger and tapped for a 5/8" or 3/4" NPT plug with either a square raised drive or recessed drive. This should make adding the gear oil with a suction gun into a much easier job. JH
