I used to use UPS exclusively but I've switched to the US Postal service now. Rates have steadily gone up and my local pick up charges $3.00 PER package and is talking about going to $5.00 a package. I know the owners and they say that UPS constantly has been adding hidden charges and in just the last month alone they charged them over $50.00 in "extra" fees. No wonder they thinking of dropping it all together.
UPS now has an "out of the way zip code" book. They claim these are places the do not normally go and a surcharge is added. We are in one of those areas and the trouble is they come to my local pick up every day and we are 11 minutes from a regional hub! Sounds fishy to me.
The other problem I've had is that UPS's online shipping charge figurer is NEVER the same as actual charge. Usually on the light side. I sent them repeated emails trying to figure out why but all I get are very vague reasons as to why.
United States Postal service Online figurer is dead on and you can get free shipping suplies- Boxes, labels, tape, envelopes and such all delivered to your door with NO shipping charges for them. Sounds to good to be true but check out the link.(3 pages of stuff) I was skeptical too but I've done it numerous times now. Isurance and delivery confirmation are always the same rate and easy to figure too. Hope this helps someone else out as I wish I'd known this earlier.
Heavier items I'd still use UPS though. Kevin
