I found the following in my 1967 Dodge Shop Manual in a discussion of lubricants under the heading "Classification of Lubricants"
"Front Axle Universal Drive Joint and Pivot Bearings (Model WM-300)
" Every 2,000 miles remove plug from each joint. check lubricant level, and fill to bottom of filler hole with Automotive
Multi-Purpose Gear Oil SAE 140. Lubricate top bearing through grease filler at top of knuckle with Automotive Multi-Purpose Grease NLGI grade 2 E.P. every 2,000 miles. The joints should be cleaned and checked and re-packed every 20,000 of road operation or 300 hours of field work, using Automotive
Multi-Purpose Gear Oil SAE 140 "
Now I have to pull my knuckles apart and clean out the grease and fill with the proper lubricant.........whats one more job ?
