Is it broken now? or are the welds just ugly?
The common method for repair is welding up the crack or break, and then fishplating a peice of steel behind it. There are different schools of thought on welding or bolting the fishplate in.
I have a truck where the frame was bent down in the middle, the straightened back up and a piece of channel was welded in where the bend was to give it more strengeth.
