Ok, here's the deal... (I have since realized that a 20 amp stereo fuse can't possibly be breaking down the alternator). I just got done sorting out my tachometer (it ground out internally and was sucking all the voltage out of the coil - an intermittent start problem... that I tolerated for about 2 years before I took the wiring harness out and figured out where all the wires went and labeled them and tested them for Ohm resistance etc.

So tonight, I discovered that my original Chrysler factory ignition key is substantially worn. There is a power strip under the fuse panel mounted to the dash. On the passenger side there are about 5 plugs one of the plugs is run straight to a ground. Ground is good.

On the drivers side of the strip there are about 12 constant power plugs (regardless of key on or key off). In the center of the B+ and Neg, there is a set of ports for Key On B+ power. With the old key, those ports were not receiving power. With the new key (in the on position) they are receiving B+. That's good news.

The problem was... that whenever I would click the blinkers on. They would blink 2 or three times and blow the fuse, therefore taking the gauges (oil, fuel) with it. I discovered that I had the heater wired to a full time B+ port, and the stereo was wired backwards... (who knows how this happened, probly trying to figure out the starting problem). Now the blinkers work, oil gauge works (fuel doesn't, sending unit broken). The blinkers work with headlights on, heater on, and wipers on.

My previous wiring attempt would cause the blinkers to blow out their fuse with the heater on. However now with the stereo wired properly (one B+ "key off", and one B+ "key on" and one ground wire) the stereo turns on manually with key in accessory and run positions. It shuts off when key is turned off. Why it doesn't turn on without me pressing the power button?? I have no idea. It also seems to have no memory... possibly the B+ "key off" wire (from stereo) is plugged into the wrong port... something to look into tomorrow.

The alternator puts out a consistent 13.4. I have not replaced the voltage regulator.
