Yes, if you decided to go without the locking hubs, you would need to install the original hubs, which are permanently engaged. They bolt up just like the locking hubs, but their internal splines are always engaged with the splines on the axles shafts. I'm sure someone on this forum could supply you with some extras they have laying around, or if not, then certainly one of the Power Wagon parts vendors (such as Vintage Power Wagons) will have some.

Of course, it might not be a locking hub, but rather it might be an axle shaft. The axle shafts are known for being somewhat weak. Again, you should be able to a replacement at one of the sources I mentioned above.
