You're not really screwed, the maximum you would be liable for fraudulent charges on your credit is $50.00 and 99% of the time even that is waived.

There are a couple of things that you need to do as soon as possible to protect your credit history and bank account though.

The first is of course to have your credit card company issue a new card.

The second is if you gave them bank account information is to have your bank close the account and open a new one.

The third is to contact the credit bureau's and submit a fraud victim statement to be added to your credit file. This keeps anyone from applying for credit without the creditor first calling you at home or at your business first. I have been doing this for several years even though I have not been the victim of identity theft. In fact everyone should be doing this as a matter of precaution.

The fourth is if you gave you driver's license number to go to the DMV and get a new driver's license, preferably one not using your SSN.
