OT- Cast Iron Fusion welding

A question for you welding pro's out there.

How difficult is it to learn how to fusion weld cast iron and is there a minimum wall thickness that can be done this way?

From some quick reading I know that engine blocks are not suitable candidates, but that cast iron heads are often fusion welded. At least those heads that it would be more expensive to replace than repair.

Is there a reference manual I could consult? I tried the AWS (American Welding Society) website but no good techinical how-to information on this process is to be found.
