I have been researching this on a 48 B-1-PW. Our 6 volt truck fuel gauge requires two wires to be sent and returned from the fuel sender. As I understand it, when the 12V were introduced, the fuel gauge converted from two wires to one, with only a single wired fuel sender unit. It sounds like maybe your combining two types of systems. Just a thought
