Use heat on the rear part of the hanger. A propane torch is usually not enough. Use a MAPP gas torch. Heat it and then use the slide hammer. You will have to heat it several times. Yes it is a SOB to get out. Keep at it. Use a large slide hammer not a small one. When you put the new pin in use an antisieze and it will not be so bad for your grandson to remove later.
