If you arent getting any detonation I wouldnt worry about it too much. Get it running again and run some sea foam in the gas for a few tanks and figure out the carb problem. I am not familair with the 1 barrel setups. On 2 and 4 barrel carbs you can adjust idle mixture screws by listening to the engine or watching a vacuum gauge and getting the highest vacuum.

Carbs can be a real pain sometimes. Sometimes they are just wore out and cant be rebuilt.
