Well then, you have a difficult task ahead of you. The '48 uses the two wire gauge & sender system. (Check out the schematics here on the forum.) The single wire sender that you describe is for a 12 volt WM300 that uses a different type gauge as well as a different voltage. The solution that I think would be the best is to obtain a 12 volt single wire gauge from a donor WM300. Then you can use your fuel tank that you have and the gauge from the WM300 is the same apperance & size. Look also at the schematic for the WM300 here on the forum. If you need part number of gauge let me know.
