Don't expect it to be like the Army ones- you may have a really rare truck...

A note about my experience with USN vehicles from WWII. With the exception of the jeeps, the Navy trucks I have encountered have all been slightly different from their Army Counterparts. Right now, I am assisting a friend with his Autocar Aircraft Wrecker. This chassis to all outward appearances looks just like the Autocar U7144T tractor, with a boom attached to it. However, cab internals are completely different, it has turn signals, different seats and air cleaners, different electrical systems, etc. Therefore, I would look at this truck as perhaps not a hybrid, and possibly an original USN contract specification. The USN did not just sign off on what the Army said was okay for its trucks. It built items with special systems configured to support different munitions, and also did a lot of experimentation with vehicles with remote controls, weird electrical systems, etc. Take a real good look at it and see if it possibly is an unaltered original. I'd hate to see OD paint on something so rare. Please let us know what you find.
