A comment on the gas gage. It should theoretically measure correctly
regardless of voltage, HOWEVER the heat dissipated in the coils goes
up as the square of the voltage, hence 12V on a 6V gage gives 4 times
the watts heating up the coils and they will burn up. It is also quite
possible the a hot coil will fail short due to insulation melting which
will apply 12V to the sender unit which might burn it up too.

I don't think anybody's mentioned the generator yet. I kept my 6V generator
but put in a 12V regulator and it appears to happily generate 12V without
getting hot.
