The sliding dog clutch is cast iton. After someone along the line has replaced he shear pin on the drive shaft with something strong, it's easy to over torque the winch. I found the bore of my dog clutch was also distorted and binding on the shaft.
Use a die grinder to correct it so it fits the shaft with a litle slop.
The other guys that responded are also right. File the key grooves also.

Yup. make gaskets for the worm so it is tighter, yet with no drag.
