Braden MU-2 Winch repair help needed

My WDX's MU-2 winch sliding clutch got stuck years before I got the truck. The lever assembly and bracket are long gone. I now have the winch off the truck, the spool removed and the clutch off the shaft. But the clearance is so small that it does not slide freely even with a nice coat of grease. Before I buy a bracket and lever assembly from VPW, are there any tips on getting the sliding clutch to slide freely on the shaft and the two keys? And keeping it from getting stuck again, since I won't be using the winch very often. (I would like to get it working again, although power unwinding isn't a big deal, I just have to jump out of the cab quickly before the winch starts to look like a giant version of my wife's fishing equipment.)

Second question: I haven't figured out if there is an adjustment on the worm gear shaft roller bearings. My bearings are a bit loose and new seals are just going to get chewed up. I have one gasket on each retainer. Are there different size spacers between the worm gear and the bearing?

Thanks for any help

Larry
