I have had an identical problem with the u-joints in my '71 W200's half-shafts since a wreck a year and a half ago (probably not coincidence). While the shop assures me that the frame is back to specs, I wonder if that near head-on with the concrete barrier has anything to do with it. After a u-joint snapped for the second time in 2000 miles, an Oklahoma farmer told me that he'd had a threaded steel rod put through the side of his transfer case and anchored to the frame somehow to change the angle between it and the tranny. Kind of drastic, but it's been in the back of my head. Visually, the shafts are clean and looking good. The flanges on my half-shafts fit together nicely and are well-greased. I'm nearly at a loss myself. What's the feasibility of converting to a CV joint?
