I shipped my wm300 power wagon from pensacola fl to san diego ca. The cost was 1100 dollars and went through a broker I found in hemmings motor news. I would not recommend using this broker service as they do not know the true size and weight of a power wagon. My broker claimed he did. Furthermore, the broker made 200 to 300 dollars off of me for this move.
The day I loaded my truck onto the car carrier I should have known it was going to be a mistake. The truckdriver off loaded a mint condition 1995 mazda rx-7 off the bottom (as this was a two tier moving truck you see on the highways)and in the process destroyed the front air dam as this vehicle did not have the clearence. He also unloaded a brand new 400 class mercedes as well.
He then proceeded to load my truck on the top tier. As the hydraulics gained momentum to lift my truck a hose broke. My truck fell a distance of only a few inches.
Now here is the kicker, the driver removed the hose and was going use the brand new Benz to drive himself (full of fluid) and the hose to the local truck stop. I intervened and offered to give him a ride.
Well we fixed the truck after getting the part and he was on his way.
Well, when I got to san diego the truck was not delivered, they claimed the winch hook came undone from the winch and struck the brand new mercedes on the roof. I have pictures of the truck departing florida and shows my winch hook wired to my truck. My theory is that the powerwagon was way too heavy for the car carrier and caused it to bounce excessively thereby causing the hook to fly off (I really don't know even if my truck caused the damage). The move became a fiasco as now my insurance rates will increase. I really screwed myself by not reading the fine print of the contract. Basically, I signed a contract saying they were not responsible for anything, I am sure the owner of the mazda now has to pay for a new front end.
Bottom line: Ask for the company who is moving your vehicle (if going through a broker), a copy of the moving contract weeks before your scheduled move, check with insurance agency (always ship with your vehicle covered by insurance) and never ship your vehicle with "Fast Trax" or Paul Stupke as your broker.
