The chip just richens the fuel air mixture (more fuel than stock) and varies other computer functions/settings/sensors to the new power curve. As far as hot rodding a diesel, any diesel, look at the fuel pump and aspiration. The kits TST makes for the old mechanical 12 valve Cummins used in the Ram (94-98) simply have a different plate in the fuel pump to allow more fuel in. They rate thier light duty kit to something like 230 hp and 600 lb/ft and their extreme kit is 400 hp and 1000+ lb/ft. They also had an injector kit that pushed the 24 valave Cummins (98 1/2 on) to 250 hp and 580 lb/ft, but with the standard chip. Charlie is very right however, a 6 litre diesel cranking out 400 hp and 1k+ lb/ft probably won't live to see its first scheduled overhaul.
