I had new equipment, proper tube cutter, new tube and fittings, but I just couldn't get them right, the double lap just wouldn't come out perfect, even if I go the amount of protruding tube exactly right and de-burred the cut end.
After a LOT of trial and error, (read error and error) I found that if I really used the deburr tool hard, actually scraping metal off the inside of the cut end, and then dipped in in ordinary oil before using the forming tools they came out perfect almost every time.
So, length correct, interior bore dedurred to the point of scraping hard, and dip it in oil, and it should be OK.
