You should have an assortment of different "pucks" with different size pins coming out of them. Find the pin that will slide inside the tubing as tight as possible, normally they are marked. Sometimes you have to get the burr out of the cut for it to slip in. A tubing cutter will help a lot as your cuts will always be straight.
Once you find the appropriate "puck" slide the tubing in the tool and let the tubing stick out the thickness to the FIRST shoulder on the puck. The pin should be pointing away from the end of the tubing. This gives you the right lentgh. Once this is done, clamp the tubing VERY TIGHTLY in the tool. Then put the "puck, with the pin going into the tubing, and screw it down till it bottoms. Once it does take out the "puck" and screw the tool down agian to invert the backside of the flare. It should be done.

This is the way mine is. Cal-van, Snap ON, and Mac were all made the same as of a few years ago. If this doesn't jive with what you have post a pic and we'll see what we're dealing with. Hope this helps and makes sense. If not, I'll try again. Kevin
