I just did mine myself but I won't do it again.
I've had hundreds of tires changed on split rims & I always watch while they are doing them...I usually find less dents in my rims & banged up lock rings this way!
I know how it's done & as a matter of fact, the truck shop I use never uses their cage??
The guy literally stands on the tire hammering the ring as it airs up.
Why? The cage is 5' away??
I decided I'd do my own this time to avoid any damage to them. I'd sand blasted & painted the rims & Cad plated the rings so there were no rust issues & it was easy to fully inspect the rims & rings.
They went together flawlessly but when it came time to air them up I was having a tough time finding enough gibblitz to do them myself.
I finally did & I'm still here to talk about it but I won't do it again.
Life's too short to take risks like this.
Next time I'll do them myself but pay the shop to air them up!
