I had a 98 Ram 2500 Quad cab, short bed with a V-10 and Auto 47RE. It was a huge gas hog.
Around my home I got in the 9's mpg. With the Gooseneck pulling my PW (GCVW 17,760) I got between 5.4 and 6.8 mpg going to the Iowa Rally 2 years in a row. I had it into Dodge Service a few time for the Gas consumption and was told everything was in order and to expect to use fuel. The First long trip to Iowa (2200 miles rt) the 47RE ran OK, the second trip, the 47RE started to shift hard, erattic, I thought both the 47RE and I were going to have the big one out in Mid America.

Like MN says, I bought a 2003 Cummins/6 speed. On the interstates, no trailer, I am getting in the low 19's to mid 20's in MPG. But the engine is not broke in and I am running winter fuea with extra additives to handle the extreem cold we have been having.

Also had an unexplained coolent useage since I owned the V-10. Many on the V-10 forum have had the same coolent use. It 'appears' that some heads are porous and allow coolent to leak thru. Dodge has replaced some of the problem heads and the problem went away.

The best place for V-10 info is the V-10 forums located at http://pub8.ezboard.com/bdodgeramv10

Lots of good info and friendly people. I could not be happier with my foreign Ram, built in a foreign country and exported to the US, 'now that its running'. Its a great truck, cant wait to try it with my trailer.
