I think nowadays it comes down to personal choice. My personal preference is Symantec Norton. The important thing is to set whatever you use to do automatic daily virus definition updates. Very important to run a personal firewall also.
PC Magazine gave the Editor's Choice to the Symantec Anti-Virus product and gave the Editor's Choice to both the Symantec Personal Firewall and ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall last November.
