Here's the spring scoop for you guys...
I talked to the owner of the spring shop here I deal with...he's been around longer than P/W's have!
He claims that many trucks including Power Wagons originally had grease between the spring leaves but that it really didn't do much to improve the ride because the grease would quickly dry up & get squeezed out from between the springs basically attracting dirt & making a general mess.
"More than anything we don't use grease on springs here because eventually the springs end up back down here & we have to get all that crap back off before we can work on them!"
He says that in his opinion if you want to improve the ride, teflon is a better answer & they can also drill the ends of each leaf & install teflon buttons but he thinks in the PW application thin teflon strips would work best so long as you don't mind modifying the spring straps & the springs general appearance.
When grilled whether dirt was going to get between the leaves & become an issue, he said, "Ha Ha...you won't need to worry about anything getting between those leaves...you need to worry about the grease getting out from between them & on to everything else!"
Oh well, if they used grease between them at the Dodge factory that's good enough for me!
Judging by the amount of oil I've seen running underneath most Power Wagon's I don't think a little grease on a spring is going to be out of place! Ha Ha!
