Paul,
The old school, old technology, KC Hilites. 300,000 to 500,000 candelpower, are incredible. They will light up the road for at least a mile. They are however illegal for highway driving and there's the rub.
I think the PIAA lights are street legal, correct? That means that, by law, the light range and candelpower is limited and ALL legal lights will not have any more range or width than legally allowed. The only difference is the light color, which is a personal preference, except in fog conditions where light color helps considerably. (blue not the old amber)
I don't really have a preference, except the lights you have are about the best legal (?) lights that you can get.You might try a more blue or white light range, it all depends upon your own vision requirements. The only real world way to tell would be to try several lights in the identical conditions and see which lights look or work best to your eyes. Hmm,... I wonder if anyone has a "test room" for this purpose??
