After the price/component/whatever comparisons are done (the voice of reason), the only suggestion I can think of is drive the beast for an hour and see if you've still got a grin on your face. About nine years ago I test-drove a guy's mog, had the cash in my pocket (good portion of my yearly income at the time...). After a lot of reading and looking at photos, I'd decided that a Unimog was definitely my one single ultimate lifetime vehicle.

It was a beautiful truck and great fun, but it was easy to decide not to buy it. Reality vs expectations. It could get stuck. I like my M-37 beater (318/NP435) and I work it some, but I don't use it much as a weekend run-about. Hate to admit it, but I like Toyotas for that nowadays. I have to admit it is more fun to camp in an old military rig. The canvas smells great and you don't have to worry about some drunk driving over your tent.
