Kurt and Russ in WYO have it correct. After being on the farm for 40 years and tearing into a lot of old machinery. The grease will attact the outside dirt and grit and actually get to a point of binding the parts. As we all know here, old motors, transmissions, and axles with old caked grease and dirt is the next hardest known substance known to man to clean off. Any lube points where grease is supposed to be will have a zerk and a means of flushing-pressureing new grease into the area. Tom
