Chris, Have you considered just using the hoist frame and hydraulics from the 3-yard dump and either A). finding a smaller dump bed that will be more proportioned to a 1-ton dump B). working out a flat-bed dump with drop-down sides C). converting the original PW bed to a dump bed. That way you would know that you've got overkill componants for a smaller bed and won't overload the truck capability.
I've put a lot of thought (but no action or dollars) into converting my '53 B4 with a rear PTO into a dump. My main concern is that I need a dump with low sides so that I can reach up and dump into it with my small Kubota loader. I don't want to upgrade to a bigger tractor, but would love to have a small dump. That M37 in the photoclassifieds is sweet, but a little pricey for me and of course on the opposite edge of the country! Good Luck, Bruce
