I have been told that the bronze bushing is more durable. The lower bearings are susceptible to failure, because moisture settles to the bottom. When the lower bearing gets loose, the upper bearing can wear out very quickly. The bronze bushing will tend to hang in there longer and provide a little more integrity to the steering.

That's only what I have been told.
