You said , replace with "the" tappered roller bearing . Did you mean there is already one that will work and has the right I.D. to fit over the kingpin or do you mean "a" tappered roller bearing as in you are looking to see if anyone has found one that works?
Personally I think the turning effort and pressure on steering box components would be relieved by using a tappered roller bearing but torquing pressures might be more critical
and the steering might tend to drift more than with a bronze cone. I don't really know
and is just my personal speculation ? I'm also curious as to which would be more durable and/or stronger?
