2500 lb springs are probably a good size. These will handle your proposed load with some room to spare.

Your 2002 Ram probably weighs in the range of 6000 to 7000#. My brother has a '98 quad cab, long bed CTD 2500 4x4 with maybe 400# of extra equip (gooseneck hitch, tool boxes, etx) that just scaled at 7400#. This is probably close to the max load for your spring setup.

Support the back end of trailer while loading, absolutely. All of my bobcat trailers have ramps with legs. I used to have one without them, and the trailer showed many signs of stress (most notably cracked paint from bending) within a short year.
