I'm lazy so to save all that work, I spray the spring packs with WD40 or Knock'R'Loose to get them wet then apray with 50/50 mix of used motor oil and diesel. After a good soaking, I go for a ride across the roughest pasture I can find. A day or two later, I repeat the process and continue until the packs start to show some movement as the oil eventually starts to work its way between the leaves. If the springs are not welded together with rust, this technique works pretty well to get them sliding.
